Abstract:Nanocellulose has the advantages of high aspect ratio, high crystallinity, high Young’s modulus and high strength, etc, as well as the biological characteristics of light weight, degradable and renewable, is an excellent choice for improving the mechanical property, optical property and water resistance of waterborne coatings. The preparation and modification methods of nanocellulose were summarized in this paper, and the performance improvement mechanism and application research progress of cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) on waterborne polyurethane and waterborne acrylic coatings were discussed in detail. Finally, the existing problems in the research of nanocellulose composite waterborne coatings were also summarized, and the future research direction was pointed out.
