Abstract:In this study, p-toluene sulphonic acid (p-TsOH) was employed to pretreat cornstalk, and the effects of three pretreatment parameters (concentrations of p-TsOH, hydrolysis temperature, and hydrolysis time) on the separation of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin were investigated. The kinetic models of lignin and hemicellulose removal were obtained by using the two-phase model, and the enzymatic hydrolysis properties of the treated residue were studied. The results showed that the p-TsOH pretreated cornstalk could quickly remove lignin and hemicellulose under mild conditions but had little effect on the degradation of cellulose. The apparent activation energies of the lignin and hemicellulose removal reactions were 66.5 kJ/mol and 50.5 kJ/mol, respectively. The tenacious structure of biomass fibers was destroyed and the surface lignin content was decreased by the p-TsOH pretreatment, which improved the enzymatic yield of treated cornstalk. After pretreatment with p-TsOH concentration of 50%, hydrolysis temperature of 95℃ and hydrolysis time of 40 min, the enzymatic hydrolysis yield of the residue was 72.9%. |
