Abstract:Paper-based material, as a green renewable and biodegradable flexible material, is one of the most important building block for the material industry. However, the superhydrophobic modification of the hydrophilic paper-based material is a vital step to realize its value-added utilization. In this paper, the research progress on hydrophobic modification of various methods, i.e., dipping, sol-gel, chemical vapor deposition, plasma deposition, and spraying, were introduced comprehensively. The potential application of which in areas of waterproof material, sensor, microfluidic device, oil-water separation membrane, and self-cleaning surface, was summarized and the future development direction was prospected as well.
