Abstract:In this study, cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) was grafted with bromo-isobutyryl bromide to prepare CNC modified Pickering agents (CNC-PDMAPMA, CNC-PDMAEMA, and CNC-PDEAEMA) containing side chain of amino polymers through ATRP grafted polymerization in methanol/water solution at room temperature. The as-prepared products were analyzed and characterized using vaious methods, which confirmed the successful preparation of the CNC-grafted polymers. It was found that when the concentration of the product (in suspension) was 0.8%, the surface tensions of which were 50.6, 51.7, and 54.4 mN/m, respectively, showing good surface activity. The toluene/water and heptane/water Pickering emulsion stabilized by 0.6 wt% modified CNC could be stored for at least 15 days without phase separation. Moreover, the as-prepared 3 products in suspension possessed pH switch-ability responding to N2/CO2 emulsion-demulsification for toluene/water or heptane/water emulsion. |
