Abstract:Cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) is a kind of nanomaterial obtained by chemical or physical treatment of natural cellulose. It has attracted more and more attention in the fields of biomedicine, electronic devices due to its unique and excellent physiochemical properties. In recent years, the green and sustainable preparation of CNC had been extensively studied. This review briefly introduced the traditional methods for the preparation of CNC firstly, and pointed out the advantages and disadvantages, especially the environmental friendliness. Furthermore, the green and sustainable preparation methods developed in recent years were comprehensively introduced, mainly including organic acid hydrolysis, solid acid hydrolysis, subcritical hydrolysis, ionic liquid treatment, eutectic solvent treatment, oxidative degradation and electron beam radiation, etc. Finally, the future research direction of CNC was proposed.
