Abstract:lignin nanoparticles possess advantages of both nano-scale material and natural lignin properties, thus have a wide range of applications. The mechanical methods (including high-pressure homogenization, ultrasonic treatment and combined methods), nano-precipitation methods (including self-assembly, acid precipitation and dialysis), interfacial cross-linking and emulsion methods, and biological preparation methods were reviewed in this paper. The application progress in antibacterial, anti-oxidation, ultraviolet protection, drug delivery, nanocomposite, catalysis and strain sensor were summarized. In addition, the outlook of development direction of lignin nanoparticles was proposed. As a new way of comprehensive application of pulping black liquor, lignin nanoparticles had great potential for future applications.
