Abstract:Carbon quantum dots (CQDs), as a new zero-dimensional fluorescent nanomaterial, has attracted more and more attention in recent years due to its advantages, such as excellent water-solubility, good chemical stability and biocompatibility, low toxicity and easy functionalization. This review mainly used carbohydrate present in lignocellulosic raw materials as carbon sources. The synthesis of carbohydrate CQDs was explained from several important aspects of different carbohydrate carbon sources, preparation methods, dopants, quantum yield and formation mechanism, and the current problems in the research of CQDs were raised, and the application of CQDs in chemical probes, biological imaging, sensors, photocatalysis and Light-emitting diode, etc, was introduced, which would provide some reference for the future expansion of the use of carbohydrate CQDs.
