Abstract:This study used polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), d-Na2Si2O5 and betaine as the main raw materials to softening and strengthening mineral inorganic fiber, and explored the better process of softening and strengthening. The softened reinforced fibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The properties of the paper prepared with blending softened and reinforced inorganic fibers and bleached softwood kraft pulp were tested. The results showed that the optimum process was as follows: the mass ratio of d-Na2Si2O5 to PVA was 1∶1, reaction temperature was 60℃, reaction time was 2 h, pH value was 9, freezing temperature was -10℃, freezing time was 4 h. Scanning electron microscope showed that d-Na2Si2O5 and PVA formed interpenetrating network and coated on the surface of inorganic fiber, forming a layer of soft membrane to increase its strength. Under the action of betaine, the fiber became superfine and dispersed, so that the softness of the fiber was improved. Compared with the paper without inorganic fiber, when the dosage of reinforced inorganic fiber was 10%~20%, the stiffness of the mixed paper by 5~8 mN·cm, The ring pressure index, tensile index, folding strength and softness of the paper were similar to those of the pure plant fiber paper.
