Abstract:At present, the low temperature freezing technology is used for pest control in libraries and archives. In order to study the influence of the technology on paper properties, six kinds of paper samples(woodfree paper, bible paper, offset paper, manifold paper, newspaper and examination paper)were selected for 180 cycles of low temperature freezing treatment, meanwhile the same samples were preserved at room temperature in dark place. Then the paper properties were measured. The results showed that the relative change rate of various properties basically did not exceed 5%. Only the relative change rate of the manifold paper’s tensile rate reached 8.6%. Therefore, the low temperature freezing technology did not substantially affect the paper properties, and it would also help to alleviate the decline of whiteness and tensile property during the preservation of the paper with high bleaching degree. It was suitable for the insecticidal operation of books and archives.
