Abstract:Deep eutectic solvent (DES) is a mixture of hydrogen bond donors and hydrogen bond acceptors with a low melting point. As a green solvent, DES has a broad application prospect in the fields of chemistry, materials, biocatalysis and biorefinery. Since DES can swell cellulose and weaken hydrogen bonding between cellulose molecular chains, DES can be applied to the preparation of nanocellulose. Moreover, DES is easy to recycle and reuse, and the whole process for the preparation of nanocellulose can be clean and free from pollution. Therefore, in this paper, the principle, process and research progress regarding the fabrication of nanocellulose by DES method were summarized and reviewed, and the problems in the preparation of nanocellulose by DES method were discussed as well, which would provide a reference for the clean preparation of nanocellulose.
