Abstract:The effect of eight novel complete dissolution systems on the separation efficiency of hemicelluloses from cotton stalk was investigated. The results showed that the hemicellulose could be isolated by extracting cotton stalk treated with novel dissolution systems using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Due to the different properties of the treatment system, the structure of the obtained hemicellulose was quite different. Among them, the hemicelluloses obtained from cotton stalk treated with alkaline system had a good purity, and were mainly composed of xylose with substantial amounts of xyloglucan. On the contrary, the hemicellulosic fractions derived from the cotton stalk treated with near neutral system, such as TBAF/ DMSO, AmimCl/ DMSO, DMPU/ DMSO and NMMO/ DMSO systems, contained a large amount of glucose from cellulose, which indicated that near-neutral solution system was not suitable for the separation of high-purity hemicellulose. |
