Abstract:The application of various water-proof materials including methyltriethoxysilane(MTES), dodecyltrimethoxysilane(WD-10), waterproof III(F3),perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane(F8261), pure ethyl silicate(R300), and fluorine-silicon modified acrylate(BV)in the raw Xuan paper(Chinese art paper) was conducted, in order to simulate their application in conservation of paper-based relics.Based on the testing results of surface property change, color change, contact angle, water absorption rate, strength of water-saturated paper stripes as well as the abilities of acid-proof, alkaline-proof and mold-proof, the evaluation of relics conservation performance of each material was summarized. And the possible challenge of the conservation of paper-based relics was discussed.
