Abstract:Liquid crystal polymer is a kind of polymer material with great application potential. Because of its special optical properties and potential applications in high performance structural materials, information recording materials, chiral recognition, sensors, optoelectronic materials, it has aroused great interest of many scientific research workers. Cellulose and its derivatives are a type of liquid crystal polymer materials, compared with other liquid crystal polymers from petrochemical products, cellulose liquid crystal has a good biocompatibility, wider resource, inexpensive and easy to get and other advantages. This paper discussed the background knowledge of polymer liquid crystal; formation mechanism and theoretical basis of liquid crystal of cellulose and its derivatives. It summarized the research progress and applications of cellulose liquid crystal materials, and predicted its development trend, which provided a reference for the potential utilization of cellulose and its derivatives.
