Abstract:Taking advantage of the strengthening mechanism of polyamide epichlorohydrin (PAE), PAE resin reinforced polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber sheets were successfully prepared, PAE resin was deposited on PAN fibers to form a “self-crosslinking” networks to enhance the binding of PAN fibers. By adding low amount (0.6 %) of PAE as cross-linkers, the tensile index, tear index, and elongation of the sheet were increased by 21.0%, 25.8%, 34.4%, respectively. Analyses of attenuated totalinternal reflectance fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) confirmed the formation of tertiary amine group in PAE-PAN sheets by the self-crosslinking of PAE polymer. This work suggested a promising PAN fiber sheet enhancement strategy by adding PAE resin as self-crosslinking material.
