Abstract:Rod-like nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) can be prepared by acid hydrolysis of native cellulose with sulfuric acid. Because of its advantages of abundance of raw materials, renewable, biocompatible and excellent mechanical properties, it has recently received a great deal of attention in the field of nanotechnology. This paper provided an overview of recent study of functional groups on the surface of NCC, and the modification of NCC. Finally, the development of NCC in the future was prospected.
