Abstract:The organic solvent carbon tetrachloride was used to purify ethanol lignin. The effects of purification temperature, dosage of carbon tetrachloride and reaction time on the purity and yield of ethanol lignin were studied. The linear relationship between concentration of the ethanol lignin and absorbance at 215 nm was measured by UV-visible spectroscopy. The corresponding relationship was y=0.0195x-0.0028. The linear relationship was used to measure quantitatively the purity of lignin (relative to refined lignin) and to obtain the best purification process of the ethanol lignin. The studied results showed that the best purification conditions were as follows: purification temperature 30℃, dosage of carbon tetrachloride 20 mL(based on 1g raw lignin), reaction time 10 min. The purity and yield of ethanol lignin were 96.55% and 84.37% respectively under this purification condition. The analysies of FT-IR before and after purification of the ethanol lignin indicated that, the structure of the ethanol lignin was almost unchanged and sugars were effectively removed in the process of purification.
