Abstract:By adding pentaerythritol polyphosphate melamine salt (MPP) into the pulp and also sizing it on the paper surface, the physical properties and flame retardant properties of the papers by using different dosages of MPP and with the help of cationic starch (CS) and cationic poly acrylamide (CPAM) were compared.Limiting oxygen index (LOI), thermos gravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to study flame retardant mechanism. The results revealed that LOI of the paper prepared by adding 3%CS, 1%CPAM and 30% MPP(on oven dring pulp) was increased by 48.7% compared with the blank sample; the residual carbon increased from 16.4% to 43.5% at 600℃; more and bigger foamed char layers formed on the surface of pulp fibers were found under scanning electron microscope. This suggested that MPP had a good flame retardant property, which could significantly improve the flame retardant properties of paper. |
