Abstract:Phenolic resin used for strengthening oil filter paper was modified by blending with rubber latex in this study. Effects of the type and content of rubber latex on the comprehensive properties of the strengthened oil filter paper were studied. SEM and FT-IR were used to characterize the micro-morphology and chemical structure of the blend resin. The results showed that carboxylic butadiene-acrylonitrile latex was the most suitable latex for the blending system and the impregnated oil filter paper achieved the best comprehensive performances when the rubber latex content was 7.5% (on the content of phenotic resion). This was due to the reason that the carboxylic group of the rubber latex could react with the phenolic resin and increase the compatibility the blend system.
