Abstract:The OCC wastewater treatment and power generation using a micribial fuel cell were studied. In order to understand the difference between laboratory research and practical application, OCC wastewater prepared in lab and from paper mill was used. The results indicated that the system of mill wastewater was better than that of self made wastewater in organic matter removal and power generation. At the end of reaction, the removal rates of organic matter were 81.3% and 89.5% respectively. In the three platforms of power generation, the output voltage generated by self-made wastewater system was lower than that by mill wastewater system. When the CODCr concentration of influent was 1000 mg/L, the maximum power densities produced by the two systems were 289.9 mW/m2 and 303.0 mW/m2 respectively. The analysis of scanning electron microscopy and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the surface morphology of anode dominant bacteria in self made wastewater system was different from that in paper mill wastewater system. In addition, the two spectra were different in the number of absorption peaks and the intensity of specific peaks. |
