Abstract:Effectiveness and relevant mechanism of attapulgite used together with cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) as a novel micro-particle retention and drainage aid system were studied. Attapulgite possessed negative charge, had some effect on the retention and drainage of paper stock. After high shear mechanical treatment, the particle size of attapulgite reduced, devillicate on the surface of particle appeared, better dispersing property was achieved. The retention and drainage of paper stock were further improved if high shear mechanical treated attapulgite was added into stock. Compared with CPAM-bentonite system, CPAM-attapulgite system had similar effect on retention and drainage, and resulted in a little better paper properties when 0.4% micro-particle and 0.05%CPAM were added. Analysis of FBRM showed the flocs mean chord length of high shear mechanical treated attapulgite was larger than that of untreated attapulgite, and smaller than that of bentonite. |
