Abstract:The effects of ammonium sulfite pretreatment on chemical composition and enzymatic saccharification of the residue from wheat straw preparation were investigated. The results revealed that more lignin was removed with the temperature and the charge of ammonium sulfite increasing. The degradation of hemicellulose increased with the increasing of the temperature distinctly, while the cellulose remained stable during the process of pretreatment. The increasing of the temperature and the charge of ammonium sulfite was beneficial to enhance the enzymatic saccharification. The sugar conversion of pretreated the residue from wheat straw increased with the increase of ammonium sulfite charge and temperature, the charge of ammonium sulfite was more sensitive than the temperature. The glucan and xylan conversion reached up to 88.9% and 44.9%, respectively, and the highest total sugar conversion was 67.0%, when the pretreated substrate with 16% ammonium sulfite charge, and 165℃ was hydrolyzed at a cellulase dosage of 40 FPU per gram of cellulose in substrate.
