| Abstract:The complex emulsions which were prepared by blending carboxyl styrene-butadiene latex with modified polypropylene wax (MWPP) emulsions were applied to paper coating, and the effects of different kinds and contents of MWPP on paper surface hydrophobicity were researched. The surface properties of styrene-butadiene-MWPP blended films were analyzed by polarizing microscopy, AFM(Atomic Force Microscopy) and contact angle measurements. The results showed that “island-type” structures of MWPP were formed on the blended film. Water contact angle of blended film surface increased from 65.35° to 114.83° with the increasing of MWPP content from 0 to 5%. Meanwhile, coating thickness had little impact on water contact angle and surface energy of the blended film. |
