Abstract:Although the bulk of paper and board is a simple concept，it has been receiving increased attention from the papermakers and end-users. In this paper，the concept and significance of the bulk of paper and board were described，and the main factors affecting the bulk of paper and board were discussed, including raw materials, pulp types, refining, fillers, chemicals, pressing, drying and calendering. The effective ways of improving the bulk of paper and board in the manufacturing process was summarized.
