Abstract:Styrene acrylic emulsions modified with two kinds of epoxy resins, E-44 and E-20 were prepared using styrene and acrylic ester as the main monomers via semi-continuous emulsion polymerization process. The properties of the emulsion modified with epoxy resin and its application influence on performance of filter paper were studied. The results showed that when styrene acrylic emulsion was modified with epoxy and applied to the filter paper, the bursting strength, stiffness and water-resistant performance of the filter paper were improved, but the air permeability and pore size reduced or unchanged compared with the unmodified styrene acrylic emulsion. When the dosage of epoxy resin was in the range of 1%~3%, the strength and water resistant properties of the filter paper were changed significantly and appeared the optimum value. The styrene acrylic emulsion modified with E-20 was obviously effective in improving strength and water-resistance of the filter paper. On the other hand, the styrene acrylic emulsion modified with E-44 had less adverse effect on permeability and pore size. |
