Abstract:In this paper, Laponite nanoparticles together with urea were used to stabilize ASA emulsions, in which Laponite particles provided mechanical barrier to prevent the coalescence of ASA droplets while urea enhanced both the emulsion stability and sizing performance of ASA. By detecting the influences of various emulsification parameters on the stability of ASA emulsions and their sizing performance, the emulsification process was optimized. The results indicated that, when the volume ratio of oil to water fixed at 1∶3, the revolving speed was 4000 r/min, the emulsification time was 3 min, and the dosage of Laponite was 0.6% based on ASA and water, the emulsion would not be separated into different lagers after 24 h. Furthermore, the addition of urea could make the emulsions more stable at lower Laponite addition levels and significantly improve the sizing performance of ASA emulsions. |
