Abstract:Adding calcium carbonate fillers in paper products can save energy and cost, improve paper properties, and increase productivities. In this paper, sodium alginate was employed to modify precipitated calcium carbonate(PCC), the sizing performance and tensile property of the papers filled with the modified PCC were investigated. The results indicated that PCC modified by sodium alginate can remarkably enhance the sizing performance and tensile property of PCC filled paper when the conditions are as follows: the mass ratio of sodium alginate to PCC is 1∶140, agitating time is 5 min, and the amount of aluminum salt is 2% on PCC.
