Abstract:The optimum parameters of chloroform modification were obtained via orthogonal experiments: aramid fibrids were modified by saturated chloroform solution in 11.10% ethanol solution for 25min, and washed twice by deionized water, then mixed with non-modified aramid fiber to make sheets. After the modification under this condition, the paper tensile strength index increased by 65.5%. The mechanism was analyzed by using IR and XPS, the results indicated that some carbonyl groups and amino groups were converted into hydroxyl groups after modification, which increased bonding force between fibers and improved strength properties of the aramid paper.
