Abstract:The bagasse was classified into various fractions by screen with different meshes. The fiber morphology of various fractions, and properties of chemical and chemi-mechanical pulp were studied. The results showed that with the increase of the screen meshes, the fiber length of the fraction decreased, and the fiber coarseness of the fraction decreased firstly, then increased. The properties of pulps made from various fractions were different, especially the fraction passing through 40 mesh screen (-40 fraction). In terms of chemical pulping, there was no obvious difference in kappa number and yield between various fractions retained on 40 mesh screen, while the chemical pulping performance of the -40 fraction was very poor, which should be removed as more as possible. In terms of chemi-mechanical pulping, the bulk of the -40 fraction was higher than those of other fractions. The dirt count, tensile index and burst index of the -40 fraction was very poor, while its ring crush and bending stiffness were slightly worse than those of others. If brightness is not important, a few parts of the -40 fraction can be retained to increase the bulk of the pulp. There was no significant difference in strength properties between various fractions retained on 40 mesh screen of the chemical or chemi-mechanical pulp. |
