Abstract:Mg-Al hydrotalcites with different interlayer anions were synthesized by co-precipitation, and used in flame retardant paper as filler. The nature of hydrotalcites and flame-retardant paper were characterized using X-ray diffraction, TG-DTA technique, etc. It was found that different types of Mg-Al hydrotalcites were layered nanoparticles, with perfectly crystallized structure and high cationic charge density. The Mg-Al hydrotalcites have the best thermal stability and flame retardant property while the interlayer anions are Cl-/NO-3. The oxygen index of the flame retardant paper is 26.2% when the dosage of Mg/Al-Cl/NO3 LDH is 20%, and the paper belongs to the grade with difficulty to burn.
