Abstract:The Qing Dynasty edition of Tong Jian Ji Shi Ben Mo(80 volume)collected in the National Museum of China has suffered from insect damage, broken threads, partial loss, water damage, and stains. In order to formulate a reasonable protection and restoration plan, instruments such as a chromatic aberration meter, flat-head pH meter, video microscope, material microscope, and scanning electron microscope(SEM-EDS)were used to analyze the physical properties and pH value of the paper, observe its fiber morphology, and identify fiber composition and processing techniques. The test results show that the cover paper of the ancient book is uncooked bamboo paper, while the signature and inner page paper are cooked bamboo paper, both without coating. These test results provide scientific references for selecting repair paper. In response to the contradiction between the large volume of ancient books and the insufficient repair capacity, a classification repair plan that combines meticulous repair and minor repair was formulated based on preservation requirements. During the conservation work, sulphuryl fluoride fumigation was carried out before restoration, and the customized folding cases were made after the restoration. The restoration work of books Tong Jian Ji Shi Ben Mo was completed, ultimately achieving satisfactory results.
