Abstract:Polyethylene glycol esters maleic acid, the reactive emulsifier was prepared by using maleic anhydride and polyethylene glycol 2000 as raw material, then SMBD surface sizing agent was prepared by using styrene(St), methyl methacrylate(MMA), butyl acrylate (BA), and methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride(DMC) as raw materials, polyethylene glycol esters maleic acid as emulsifier and potassium persulfate as initiator. Structural and performance properties of the SMBD were characterized by surface tension(γ), critical micelle concentration(CMC), FT-IR and TEM. The experimental results showed that CMC values of polyethylene glycol esters maleic acid was approximately 0.26 g/L, γCMC values was about 29.0 mN/m. FT-IR analysis showed that SMBD had expected copolymer structure, SMBD emulsion particle was spherical structure, particle diameter was 70nm or so, water resistance of the film formed by SMBD was better than that formed by the surface sizing agent prepared using sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(SDBS) and nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (10) (OP-10) as emulsifier, water absorption rate of the later was 44.2% after 15 days and SMBD was only 18.4%. The results of surface sizing application with SMBD and oxidized starch mixture on the light weight paper indicated that water resistance and strength of the sized paper increased significantly, the Cobb value, surface strength and folding strength, tearing index and breaking length were superior to that sized with the commercial surface sizing agents, even a little better than that sized with the imported products. |
