<description xmlns:cf="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/rss/core/2005" cf:type="html"><![CDATA[This study offered a comprehensive review of commonly utilized the types of yellow plant dyes in the process of repairing mounting paper， along with potential challenges encountered during their application. The results showed that yellow plant dyes could be classified into six groups based on pigments’ chemical structure： flavonoids， carotenoids， alkaloids， anthraquinones， tannins， and curcuma. Currently， the primary hidden risks associated with employing plant dyeing solutions for paper restoration included 3 aspects the acidic nature of the dyeing solution， susceptibility to discoloration of dyed paper， high impurity content and complex composition in the dyeing solution. To effectively address these concerns， several approaches were suggested such as adjusting pH values by incorporating alkaline substances into the dyeing solution， adding appropriate amounts of adhesive and fixing agents， and steaming or heating the dyed paper after dyeing treatment. Furthermore， drawing insights from modification research conducted in textile field on cotton and hemp fabrics dyed with plant dyes provided valuable guidance towards exploring feasible strategies for modifying and utilizing yellow plant dyes to enhance safety standards when restored paper cultural relics.]]></description>

<description xmlns:cf="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/rss/core/2005" cf:type="html"><![CDATA[<i>Tong Jian Ji Shi Ben Mo</i>（80 volume） was block-printed edition from Jiangxi Publishing House， edited in the twelfth year of Qing Dynasty’s emperor Tongzhi， which was collected in the National Museum of China， had suffered from insect damage， broken threads， losses， water damage， and stains. In order to formulate a reasonable protection and restoration plan， various modern analytical techniques were employed to analyze the physical properties of the paper， and the fiber composition and processing techniques were inferred according to the observed fiber morphology. In response to the contradiction between the large amount of ancient books and limited repair capacity， a classification repair plan was formulated based on preservation requirements. During the conservation work， sulphuryl fluoride fumigation was carried out before restoration， and the customized folding cases were made after the restoration. The results showed that the cover paper， label paper， and inner pages of the books were bamboo paper without coating. The average pH value of the ancient book paper was 5.5， indicating mild acidification. Given the strength of the paper， deacidification treatment was not performed during the restoration. In the actual restoration process， five volumes were selected for complete restoration that one of repaired page by page and flattened， four of underwent partial repair， and remaining volumes had covers’ repaire and the threads’ replacement.]]></description>

<description xmlns:cf="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/rss/core/2005" cf:type="html"><![CDATA[The painters at Qing Imperial Workshop created the preliminary sketch of Empress Xiaozhe Yi’s portrait by the ink line outline， with a brief color text or irregular color block in the corresponding area of the label. The paper used in preliminary sketch was rendered on a composite of multiple small sheets of paper， the material and splicing method had a certain degree of specificity， so that it was different from the conventional emperor and empress like cultural relics restoration. Utilizing modern technology to analyze the thickness， fibers， and color of the original paper for restoration， aiming to provide a reference for the scientific restoration of similar artifacts. Furthermore， based on restoration， combined with the original portrait of Empress Xiaozhe Yi’s court dress， a preliminary study of the text and symbols labeled in the portrait.]]></description>

<description xmlns:cf="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/rss/core/2005" cf:type="html"><![CDATA[History temperature and relative humidity of 12 constantly controlled temperature and humidity storerooms and 45 lightly controlled temperature and humidity storerooms in the North China Plain were analyzed， and the corresponding life expectancy and mechanical damage risk of paper cultural relics conserved in above-mentioned condition were calculated. It was found that allowing temperature in constantly controlled temperature and humidity storerooms had seasonal fluctuations that adapted to the changes of ambient climate within the recommended range， which could improve the energy economy and stability of temperature and relative humidity in the conservation environment， while didn’t affect the safety of paper cultural relics. Most of the year， the history temperature and relative humidity of the lightly controlled conservation environment in the North China could ensure the safety of paper cultural relics. Conserve paper cultural relics at lower temperature in cool/dry season. When the relative humidity of conservation environment reached the upper limit of the allowed range as the humidity of atmosphere rises， increased the temperature setpoint. When temperature reached the upper limit of the allowed range， control temperature and relative humidity at the same time. It was a sustainable conservation strategy for year-round or seasonal cool/dry areas.]]></description>

<description xmlns:cf="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/rss/core/2005" cf:type="html"><![CDATA[This study took the collection of “Characters on paper” in Shaanxi History Museum as the research object to discuss the removal of mildew. On the basis of the analysis of the pigment components of this heavey color painting and calligraphy， the species of mildew on the surface of the painting and calligraphy were separated， purified and identified， and the simulated samples of mineral pigment and non-mineral pigment mildew were made by using the successfully cultivated strains. Four cleaning solutions， 75% alcohol cleaning solution， 3% papain cleaning solution， 3% papain and 0.05% ascorbic acid compound cleaning solution， and 3% papain and 5% betaine compound cleaning solution were used to clean mildew. The results showed that the cleaning solution combined with 3% papain and 5% betaine compound cleaning solution had a good cleaning effect on the non-mineral pigment mold samples， and had less impact on the color difference， gloss， pH value， and physical properties of mineral and non-mineral pigment heavy-colored paper samples. Therefore， it could be used for cleaning mold stains produced by <i>Aspergillus glaucus</i>.]]></description>

<description xmlns:cf="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/rss/core/2005" cf:type="html"><![CDATA[This study selected four wax paper calligraphy and painting relics from the collection of Hubei Provincial Museum as the research objects. Through microscopic observation of the fiber composition and morphology structure of the paper samples， it was determined that the paper material was mainly composed of leather fibers. Using various spectra and energy spectrometers to scientifically analyze the composition and processing technology of the sample pigments， it was inferred that the pigment layer was mainly composed of lead elements and mineral fillers were added. Combining the advantages of modern technology testing technology with traditional restoration and mounting techniques， the protection and restoration work was completed， making the four wax paper calligraphy painting relics more scientifically and reasonably protected.]]></description>

This paper introduced the development process and current situation of paper for the restoration of ancient books since the Chinese Ancient Books Protection Plan. Aiming at the shortage and quality problems of paper for the restoration of ancient books， this paper revealed the living situation and predicament of intangible cultural heritage handmade paper workshops and manufacturers through data inquiry and field investigation. The influence of changes in curtain technology， raw material selection time， bleaching process， cooking method， papermaking water， paper baking tools and other aspects on handmade paper were studied， and put forward suggestions to support intangible cultural heritage handmade paper workshops and formulate traditional handmade paper production standards. In order to ensure the survival and continuation of traditional handmade papermaking techniques and which provided guarantee for the restoration of ancient books in China.]]></description>

<description xmlns:cf="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/rss/core/2005" cf:type="html"><![CDATA[In this study， the UV light， dry heat， damp heat accelerated aging experiment and other conditions were combined to accelerate the aging of bamboo paper， structure paper and other commonly used handmade paper for the restoration of ancient books. The results showed that the aging process would increase the acidity of the paper， and the acidity could be reduced to nearly neutral by soaking in weakly alkaline water. Compared with ancient book of similar color， the preservation state of experimental paper samples might be better， but in some cases， such as ancient book polluted and darkened， the preservation state of experimental paper samples of the same color might be worse. The color stability of aging test paper under light and heat conditions was better than that of traditional dyed paper.]]></description>

<description xmlns:cf="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/rss/core/2005" cf:type="html"><![CDATA[This study analysed the effects of air pollutant types on the deterioration of antiquarian books and explored the treatment of air pollutants in the antiquarian book preservation environment. The results showed that the purification module could remove 99.8% of total volatile organic compounds （TVOC） and more than 80% of formaldehyde gas within the environment， and the module also had a significant control effect on formic acid， acetic acid， and other harmful gases commonly found in antiquarian book preservation environments， as well as providing continuous and effective air cleaning in high airtight spaces. In addition， by combining the constant humidity module， the constant humidity and stability of the preservation environment could be achieved. Therefore， a long-term preservation system based on a highly airtight enclosure， combined with purification， constant humidity， and data collection functions， could seal the preservation environment and was suitable for the long-term storage of paper-based materials.]]></description>
